Newark Colts Vs Lincoln U18s

The Colts travelled to our neighbours in Lincoln for an exciting local derby under the Lincoln lights on Friday 15th, on what turned out to be a mild evening for rugby.
Newark kicked off into a light wind and wasted no time seizing the initiative. A well-executed lineout on their own 22 was spread quickly to the backs, eventually finding Lenny Coen on the wing. Coen sprinted in from halfway to score a try in the opening minutes, with Charlie North adding the conversion. 0–7.
As the game settled, Newark's scrum began to assert dominance. However, misfiring lineouts proved costly, gifting penalties to Lincoln, who capitalised on the lapses. Despite this, Newark struck again. After an overthrown lineout by Lincoln, the visitors moved the ball quickly, with Charlie North slicing through the defence to score and converting his own try. 0–14.
Lincoln, determined to get on the scoreboard, opted for a penalty kick after a Newark infringement, narrowing the gap to 3–14. Spurred on by the home crowd, Lincoln followed up with a well-orchestrated lineout on Newark's 22, breaking through tackles to score a try and adding the conversion to close the deficit to 10–14.
As halftime approached, Newark regained momentum. A powerful pick-and-go from Toby Waller added another try, with North once again flawless from the tee. Newark ended the half in control at 10–21.
The second half saw Lincoln press hard to level the match, but a combination of handling errors and resolute Newark defence kept the home side at bay. Newark came close to extending their lead several times and eventually broke through. From another dominant scrum, Conner Cnockaert peeled off the back and stormed forward, finding scrum-half Griff James in support to take the offload and finish the move. North maintained his perfect kicking record, making it 10–28.
Lincoln showed persistence, scoring a late try to narrow the gap, but it proved too little, too late. The match ended 15–28 in favour of Newark in what was an error-strewn yet fiercely contested derby.
Many thanks, as always, to the officials and our gracious hosts in Lincoln.
